Trench Shoring |Trench Box

Trench Box | Trench Shoring | Trench Box for Sale

A trench box is used in the process of bracing the walls of a trench to prevent collapse. The phrase can also be used as a noun to refer to the materials used in the process. Several methods can be used to shore up a trench. Hydraulic shoring is the use of hydraulic pistons that can be pumped outward until they press up against the trench walls. They are typically combined with steel plate or a special heavy plywood called Finform. Another method is called beam and plate, in which steel I-beams are driven into the ground and steel plates are slid in among them. A similar method that uses wood planks is called soldier boarding. Hydraulics tends to be faster and easier; the other methods tend to be used for longer term applications or larger excavations. Shoring should not be confused with shielding by means of trench shields. Shoring is designed to prevent collapse, whilst shielding is only designed to protect workers should collapse occur. Most professionals agree that shoring is the safer approach of the two.

Trenches can be a danger to all involved, because of the risk of the trench collapsing and trapping workers and equipment. Even a non-serious collapse can hinder the job progress and use many man-hours to re-dig. Trench shoring uses different methods to hold up the walls of the trench in order to prevent such collapse. Hydraulics is usually the faster and easier to use, while the other options are more used for long-term applications or very large excavations. Various types of shoring systems are available, including lightweight aluminium, steel, trench sheeting and power braces for excavations up to 14m wide.  Shoring supports the walls of a trench, providing a safety zone for workers.  Types of shoring include open and closed shoring systems.

Examples of Trench Shoring Products are:

  • LIGHT BOX

The Light Box combines a light plate construction with a flexible spindle. This makes this type of trench shoring so perfect for small to medium trench shoring projects and for the use of light construction machinery. This trench shoring is also suitable when the ground is not stable. The flexible spindle makes it suitable for the installation with the “cut and lower” method. The light box is mostly used for supply lines, house connections and cable lying. The robust construction of the side profiles allows higher strut clearances compared to the light weight trench shoring and the spindle we use with this type of trench shoring allows greater trench widths.

  • EXTRA BOX

The Extra Box is the economical solution between the Light Box and the Standard Box. The stronger trench shoring plate construction allows higher loads compared to the Light Box. With the same earth pressure the deformation in the trench shoring is reduced considerably. With the flexible spindle, the Extra Box can be installed where the ground is not stable and using the “cut and lower” method. The use of a reinforced post profile makes the trench shoring box very strong and it meets any specific requirements.

  • STANDARD BOX

The Standard Box is the power package among the trench shoring boxes. This robust and long-lasting trench shoring box is equipped with an extremely reinforced top resisting the high loads when lowering. Moreover, the durable plate cutting edge allows cutting even firm soil. In order to minimize deformations the side profiles have been equipped with additional bars. The flexible spindle allows the installation in non-stable grounds with the “cut and lower” method. The Standard Box is suited especially for supply lines in depths of 2.00 – 4.00 m. The safe working loads exceed the presumed conditions on site by far.

  • BOX SHORING SPINDLE

Trench shoring spindle is used for all trench boxes – Light Box, Extra Box and Standard Box. With the trench shoring spindles you can realize flexible trench widths and create a maximum of safety during civil engineering. The trench spindle is adjusted to the required trench width by simply mounting and pinning extension pipes.

In conventional systems, the extension pipes must be screwed. This involves a lot of time and many screws. On the contrary, the trench shoring system allows you to simply stick the extension pipes together. The construction of the spindles and extension pipes is very robust and can stand high loads. The specified compressive forces were supported by extensive bench tests.

  • MAXI BOX

The Maxi Box allows the laying of pipes with a very great pipe diameter. It is possible to position three different strut clearance heights. The maxi strut clearance height is 2.29 m. The top of the trench shoring plate is extremely reinforced in order to stand the high loads during the lowering. At the same time, the robust cutting edge allows to cut even firm ground. In order to minimize the deformation, the side parts are equipped with additional bars. The use of the flexible yellow trench shoring spindle allows resisting high compressive forces. Maxi Boxes are mainly used in trench depths of 2 – 4 m.

  • ROLLING STRUT BOX

The Rolling Strut Box is a trench shoring box which at the same time offers the advantages of the slide rail shoring. The trench shoring plates are strut and supported by the well-proven rolling strut successfully used in the slide rail trench shoring for a long time. The strut clearance heights are infinitely variable and can be set according to the specific needs of the site. The required working width is realized by means of distance pieces. Each component is individually able to slide during installation and removal. Plates and rolling struts are moved parallel to each other. This reduces the forces required during the installation and removal significantly. When laying excessively long pipes, the rolling struts can be positioned offset in height and thus allowing the laying of the pipes. Rolling Strut Boxes are mainly used for trench shoring projects were also great strut clearance heights are required.

  • MANHOLE BOX

The Manhole Box is always used when wider manholes have to be installed within a working trench. The trench shoring plate body is designed as a U-form and the wings have a thickness of 0.40 m. Thus, a 0.80 m wide manhole is formed. Ahead and behind the manhole, normal trench shoring boxes ensure the trench safety. The spindles and accessories are identical to those of the trench shoring boxes.

Trench boxes comprise of a simple, robust, two-sided mechanical excavation support system. A trench box is designed as a temporary earth retaining structure allowing the sides of the excavation to be cut vertical or near vertical. This quick and easy method ensures ground stability within a trench and helps to minimize the excavation area to avoid damage to neighboring structures and utilities in the ground. With trench work being such a hazardous line of work, contractors and their workers deserve quality products that will help them efficiently, safely, and productively get the job done. Trench boxes are built with straight sidewalls that bow in under pressure when they are in the ground, making them almost impossible to pull. Trench boxes are the only ones with a mid-section camber, making the box inches wider in the middle. When they are placed in the ground and under pressure, its sidewalls become straight and this will lead to an easy movement of those deep, tight, hard-pulling jobs.

Protect your excavation and underground utility contractors and your bottom line with trench boxes. They are simple modular units which can be easily and quickly installed by an excavator to provide strong, reliable shoring for most ground conditions whilst giving full protection for operatives in every stage of installation and removal. Strong enough to keep trench workers safe from injuries or unstable soil, yet lightweight for easy transportation and assembly, aluminum trench boxes, are ideal for smaller jobs in place of steel trench boxes. Also known as trench shields, aluminum trench boxes are engineered to offer the protection and security for excavation that steel trench boxes provide, but are less than half of the weight. They are customarily constructed with sidewalls of varying thicknesses held apart by steel or aluminum spreaders. Spreaders can be interchanged to match the width of the trench. The different materials and building designs lead to a variety of depth ratings, i.e. the depth of a trench that the shield can withstand a collapse without buckling. Depth ratings are determined by registered professional engineers.

Trench boxes are strong enough to handle the pressure from unstable soil and provide a safe space for workers and protect them in the event that a trench collapses. Whether digging the foundation for a building or laying pipes or wires, trench boxes ensure worker safety and play a major role in the prevention of cave-ins and injuries. Steel Trench Boxes feature high-tensile steel sidewalls and extra pipe clearance for dependable, rugged performance in-the-trench. Trench boxes are particularly used where the ground is not stable. With their spring mounted flexible spindles, the trench boxes can be installed with the “cut and lower” method. The range differs with regard to the thickness of plates and the safe working loads. They provide effective protection for contractors working in moderate to deep trench applications in a variety of soil conditions. In case of a trench collapse, a trench box is designed to protect workers within the trench. Most trench box sizes range from 4’ x 8’ to 10’ x 24’, with up to a 6” wall thickness or knife-edge. Trench experts are on hand to help you find the right trench boxes, shields or shoring for rent to fit your project. There are different types of trench box such as:

  • Backhoe/Micro Trench Box

They are usually handled by small excavator, they have a clearance beneath strut of about 0.8m, and they are strong, lightweight units which are suitable for installation of domestic services.

  • Mini Trench Box

They are also handled by small excavators, they have a clearance beneath strut of about 1.18m, and they are strong, lightweight units which are suitable for installation of domestic services.

  • Standard Trench box

Here the standard trench has a depth of up to 6.0m. They have a larger internal working area than the previous ones and they have a clearance beneath strut of about 1.45m.

  • Magnum Trench Box

The magnum trench boxes have easier installation of large diameter pipes and culverts and they also have greater clearance of 2.45m beneath lower strut.

There are some advantages of using a trench Box:

-They are constructed with the narrowest possible sidewalls, so less soil has to be excavated and there is less backfill and compaction.

-They are built to give the highest pounds per square foot (PSF) for use in the deepest trenches.

-By eliminating the knife edge found on the bottom of many trench boxes, they can be used in any configuration when stacked in deep trenches.

-They are designed by a Registered Civil Engineer in conjunction with Trench Shoring Company specialists.

We know that sometimes you need a steel trench shield and on occasion you want an aluminum trench shield of which we provide both. Understanding your need is important to the type of trench you will need to shore up. We offer the best trench boxes for sale. They are all available for you.
